Vote for ME!
Posted on 16. Sep, 2008 by Trish in Awards
I’ve been nominated for the Dottie Awards! In what category, you might ask?
Oh yeah! My Dad would agree! In fact, that was what he called me when I was in high school. I was in the colorguard, and was assistant captain my junior year, and captain my senior year. I marched in over 100 parades (I didn’t keep count) performed in tons of field shows (halftime show at football games) and spent most of the time outside of school at a rehearsal or performance. My favorite part was when we did winterguard, which is a show indoors with just the colorguard. That was by far the best time. We had to do the fieldshows and parades to be a part of the winterguard. We were good too. The top guard in the nation would watch us perform when we were at the same shows, and gave us compliments. We won lots of trophies and awards. Well, to prove that I really was, and still am, a band geek, here are some pictures and a video!

This was me last night. I put on one of my old uniforms (Yes, I still have it! I thought it might make a good Halloween costume or something. It did look kind of spacey)

This is me, and my friend Rebecca. Aren’t those dresses just wonderful? (Honestly, they were better than some of the other things we had to wear!)

OK, this was some of us my junior year. It was a dress up day at school where the seniors were superheros, the juniors villains, the sophomores the sidekicks, and the freshmen were the police. I show this picture to show off my lovely green pants. These were actually from a uniform my sophomore year. For the fieldshow we did Little Shop of Horrors, and we had these horrible green overalls. They had an elastic waist and then the top came up and tied over the shoulders. We called them our booger suits. When that year was over, we pretty much all cut the top off, and then they became these awesome pants. They were great for St. Patrick’s Day, or to wear to rehearsal. My Dad used to ask me everyday when I came home from school if I had done anything to embarrass him that day. When I came home wearing these pants, he’d just say, “Geez, I don’t even have to ask today. I KNOW you embarrassed me today!”
Here is a video I made last night to show that I am still a band geek! The video has no sound, since I don’t have a video camera, and this was a clip taken with my old digital camera. Please excuse the sloppiness, I haven’t picked up a rifle or sabre in about 7 years! I used to be able to do a solid quad (Throw it up and have it spin around 4 times in the air before catching it) with the rifle, and a 6 with the sabre. I could do a 2 1/2 with the flag, and I can throw all of them and turn around and catch them behind my back without looking. I’m not sure how much I could do today, but like I said, I graduated about 7 years ago!
So please, please, please go vote for me at MomDot here. I am behind, and I need all the votes I can get! Thank you to those who already voted for me, without me asking. It’s nice to know I have friends in the bloggy world! I like to to know that I’m not just writing to myself, other people are actually reading my blog too! Just go to the Band Geek Category and click on the circle next to Trish from Sweet ‘n’ Sassy Girls.
While you’re there, also vote for A Parker Fam under Most Likely to Succeed. That is me also, just with my personal blog. I will put up an argument on there for why you should vote for me in a minute.

Awww I missed out on the voting! I’m sorry…but I’m wicked impressed that you’ve still got it after 7 years!
I did flag for 5 years. My last year I picked up rifle and promptly gave it up after brusing my hand pretty badly. Then I thought it would be fun to toss a sabre at a regional band event (horsing around) and almost broke two fingers – I haven’t touched either since! I still have my flag though!

Being a former colorguard member myself, I can relate to the rifle… mad those things hurt when you catch them wrong! Oy, the memories…
Having the ability to pick it up 7 years later and still be able to do it is impressive though… I tried to do some things with the broomstick to show my kids, but the weight/balance just wasn’t the same.
You’ve got my voe for sure… if only that you had the guts to video yourself doing it now!
Good luck,
Jennifer H
