A little while ago I wrote a post about how I was disappointed in Singer because my motor went bad on my Singer Confidence 7470 Sewing machine after only having it for one year. Well, after that post, I was contacted by Kate who works for Singer and she offered to have Singer fix the machine [...]

Tragic Loss

I haven’t been online much lately as I am trying to do a mad dash to get ready for Christmas.  So this morning when I signed into a mom blogging community I was shocked to learned that a fellow member, Shellie from Blog 4 Mom, had lost her 2 year old son when he fell [...]

Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion Review

I love skin care. Maybe that’s why I went to school to get my license in it! The skin is so complex and it’s fun trying to figure out what to do to make it look and feel the best. So when I was approached and asked to try Skin MD’s natural skin care products, I jumped at the chance. I figured this would be a good way to put all my time an money spent in education to good use.

Now, I am pretty picky with what I like and don’t like. I use a good skincare line on a daily basis, so I have pretty healthy skin. I don’t really have dry hands or feet in the winter, so I decided to try this on my face in the place of my regular moisturizer. Now, let me explain that this was probably the toughest test I could have done. I have extremely acne prone skin, so I break out really easily. I was afraid that since this was an all-in-one shielding lotion it would be too much for my face. After using this for several months now, I can honestly say I am VERY impressed. My skin only broke out once, and it was a small breakout. Not the great big painful ones I usually get. The first time I put it on it felt so smooth and silky on my face. I don’t notice that silkiness as much now, but it could simply be because I got used to it.

It was so lightweight that there were a few times I felt like I needed a little moisture, such as when I got back from California. My skin usually reacts when I travel to different climates, and I was surprised it didn’t react when I got to California. It did, however, feel much drier when I came back. I used this, along with another moisturizer for a day or two, and I was just fine.

Now there is a difference between a shielding lotion and a regular moisturizer. Your skin naturally has a protective layer that helps block the bad things from entering, and keeps the good things in. The problem is, there are lots of harmful irritants in the air and other places that we encounter daily. These break down that protective layer. You know how you’ve heard about anti-oxidants and how they are so good for your body, so you should eat food that are high in anti-oxidants? Well, the same is true for your skin. You need things to help combat those harmful irritants to protect your skin. That is what this shielding lotion does. As you can see in the picture above, it helps lock in your skin’s natural moisture, while keeping those harmful irritants out.

Have you ever noticed that while using a normal moisturizer your skin feels fine, but as soon as you stop using it you go right back to where you were before, or worse? That’s because they only artificially lubricate the outer layer of skin. As soon as that lubrication is worn off, your skin goes back to the way it was. A shielding lotion actually bonds with your skin and helps your skin to retain it’s own natural moisture so when you stop using it, that dryness is not still there.

I love the fact that I can read the back of the label and I know what most of the ingredients are. That’s always a good sign!

The only thing I think they could improve is the shielding lotion and sunscreen. I am a huge advocate of staying out of the sun, or protecting yourself when you do go in the sun. An SPF of 15 is not enough protection. I think they should have it as an SPF of 30. That’s it, though. I would just make sure to use additional protection when out in the sun, and not rely on this as a sunscreen.

As a master aesthetician, and as a personal user, I would give this product a thumbs up!
