Summertime Fun
Posted on 23. Jun, 2009 by Trish in Family Life
It seems like summer time is a hard time to keep up with the blog. We are always outside or off having an adventure.
Yesterday we went to the zoo. It was my first time going to the one here. Today it’s not even noon and we’ve already been outside playing for a little while. I am working on a garden, so I was out there planting some vegetables.
I’ve never really done a garden, so we’ll see what happens. I’ve been somewhat successful growing some flowers in past years, so this year I ventured out and decided to try some actual food. My neighbors gave us some carrot seeds, so I planted those a little while ago. Today I just planted some spinach, some lettuce, a zucchini plant, and I’m going to try to get some peppers planted later on today too. Ooh, and I forgot that my neighbors gave us a tomato plant too.
I’m hoping that some of this will grow for us this year. I might venture out and go with some more vegetables next year if this works out.
Have you ever grown a garden? How did it work out for you?

We’ve tried tomatoes both in Connecticut (got 1 cherry tomato) and in Florida, where we live now (cannot grow a single one). We do have a lemon tree in back near our garage that we planted when it was 12 inches tall. It took 3 years to reach any type of respectable size then the next year we got 1 lemon, and we thought oh, no here we go again (that was last year). It was really good. This year we have tons, and we are soooo excited!!!!
It’s really hard to have a garden here because of the weather, the heat, then draught, then the rainy season – we haven’t figured it out. Oh, yea, I have basil on my windowsil too.

Where is your garden at? In the front or back? That will be so nice to have your own fresh vegetables. We are generally outside quite a bit too, but are trying to recoup from a week long vacation

It’s out front. We have a massive flower bed out there compared to others. I figured I’d take advantage of the space and see what happens!
