The Search for the Perfect Dress

I have been searching for the perfect dress for BlogHer. There are lots of parties to dress up for and since I rarely get to dress up, I wanted to find something I loved.
The hard thing is I want something long, with sleeves, and not too low cut. Oh, and affordable too. Ha! That is pretty much asking for a brand new car to just magically appear outside of my house. It ain’t going to happen!
So I decided that since I can sew and have been making skirts and dresses for me since jr. high, I would find a pattern and make my own. Umm, yeah, that is proving pretty difficult right now too. All the patterns right now seem to be empire waist, which does NOT work with my pear shape.
I need something to emphasize my small waist, but hide my big thighs. I recently attempted to combine a few patterns and make a dress using some fun fabric I found on sale. The top ended up being too big, and the bottom too small. I can still wear it, but it’s not quite what I was going for.

Here is the top:

Sometimes I wish I was this big fashion designer and could just make my own! But knowing me I would royally screw it up first!
Guess I am back to searching for that perfect dress. And oh, if you happen to find one, don’t be afraid to point me in the right direction!

It sounds like you need to go shopping! That is a cute summer dress you made though. I was looking for something dressy last winter for Marshall’s office party and found a great little black dress with a sequin shrug. I found it on clearance for $35 but I really had to look. I ended up getting it in the Jr.’s department, lol. Good luck!!
