I Don’t Get Facebook
Posted on 24. Aug, 2009 by Trish in Trisha
My husband has been on facebook for a while, more to play the games than anything else. Several of his family members are on there too, but I decided I wouldn’t join. It’s just one more social media network that I don’t have a ton of time for.
Then facebook became more and more popular, and it seems like everyone was on there. My husband always seemed to know more about things that were going on with people because of facebook. People seemed to think that if they posted it on facebook, everyone would know about it. I had a friend who didn’t know about a birthday party for her friend because she doesn’t have facebook. The friend just posted it there and figured that everyone would see it. She found out a few weeks later when another friend mentioned the party. She felt like she wasn’t invited because she didn’t happen to see it on facebook.
I even had some in laws who forgot to call us to let us know their last child was born. We found out a couple of weeks later when we went to a family dinner and they were there with the baby. They apologized and said that he must have forgotten to call us. Their next comment? “We posted it on facebook!” Apparently we weren’t the only members of the family they forgot to call, and most of them found out from facebook.
I finally decided it was time for me to join. I didn’t want to miss out on things anymore. Besides, I might be able to connect with old friends. Now that I have joined, however, I have no idea what to do. I keep getting friend requests, and most of the people I know, but others I have no idea who they are! Some people say they graduated the same year as I did from high school, but I’m going to have to go pull out my old yearbook to see who they are. Then there are people who don’t have their maiden name on there, just their married, so I really have no idea who they are!
So now I have joined. I have a few friends, but I still don’t get it. Am I the only one who doesn’t understand it?

It took me awhile to get it. I had friends on it that kept telling me to get on so I signed up but I didn’t do anything with it for the longest. I finally got used to it and really like it now. I am in touch with people from high school that I haven’t seen for years and it’s fun to catch up.

I don’t want to join, I have so many things I like to do and that just isn’t one of them. I cannot believe how many people I know who spend so much time on the computer with people they don’t know, see or socialize with. I’m on late night because I’m a night owl and I don’t start work till 9. My husband goes to bed early, but I would much rather spend time with him or my real friends.

I’m not too terribly interested in facebook. I have one and it’s nice to keep up to date on some things, but I don’t really get on too often unless an email comes that says someone wrote me or wants to be added or something. That’s insane people think everyone who matters is on facebook though!

I dont get into any of the games or quizzes…I go on there to check out what might be happening in old classmates or family members lives. Pretty much just being nosey…I only post a couple things a week myself.

I don’t really get it either. I’m on there, but never log on unless I get an email saying someone added me or left a comment.

I’m like Kim. I usually only remember to log on when I get a message that someone has written on my wall. I have found some long lost friends through fb though, so I love it for that.

I just have gotten into it the last 5-6 months and go in spurts. Sometimes I’m really active, other times I don’t get on it for days. Yeah, one more social networking outlet. Like I don’t spend enough time on the internet?

I like Facebook for keeping in touch with family far away and maybe some old friends but honestly I don’t go there on my own. I usually forget about it until I get a message telling me someone wrote on my wall.
