Sewing Machine Woes

Remember how I posted that my sewing machine was giving me issues? Well, they are worse than I thought. I bought my Singer 7470 about a year ago, and the other day as I was sewing it just stopped on me. Then every time I would push the pedal it wouldn’t do a thing except beep at me.

I finally called a Singer dealer on Friday to see if they had any ideas of what to do. They told me that the gal who was gifted in fixing sewing machines would be in tomorrow so to go ahead and bring it in.
The problem is I don’t live extremely close to any of their stores, so I had to drive 45 minutes to get there. I take it in, they plug it in and say, “Well, I think it might be a short in the pedal, we’ll have to send it up to the repair guy to take a look at it. It’s going to be about $90 for them to take a look at it, and then the cost of parts on top of that.”
UGH! My machine is only a year old! And it’s not a cheapy one either.
I decide that since it might just be a short in the pedal I’ll have my grandpa take a look at it. He’s really good at fixing things like that. So I take it over to their house, and he can’t get the pedal open to look at the inside. Luckily they had another pedal that fit my machine, so we tried it, and that one did the same thing. That means it’s most likely not the pedal. I finally decide to just take it in to the dealer and hope they can fix it. It would still be cheaper than buying a new machine.
Can I just say that I am so glad I kept my old White brand sewing machine my mom bought me at a garage sale years ago? It’s one of the old metal ones that will last forever. It doesn’t do much, but it works.

I had an old machine that was my MIL’s (a Singer) the kind in the beautiful wood table. Now, let me say, The Hubs is a bit older than me…
… 24 years to be exact, so his mom was quite a bit older than me, and SHE had this machine for a LONG time. It STILL worked when I inherited it when I married Bill in 1997. When we planned to move to FL in 2004, we weren’t going to take it with us because it was just too damn heavy and I really don’t sew… I was able to sell it to a very nice family in the neighborhood for a 13 year old girl who just discovered a love of sewing, and she fell in love with this machine. I was going to try and sell it as an antique, but I let it go for $50 because she was just so excited about this machine and her face lit up when I told them the price and I got a HUGE hug from her and it really made my day. I know my MIL was looking down from heaven and was really pleased about it.
I haven’t thought about that story in years… thank you for bringing back such a wonderful memory to me…. I’ve had such a miserable few weeks. I hope your machine is fixed very soon and that it doesn’t cost you much to repair because you deserve a break for giving me such a lift today!!

I think old school is always better! My mom had this crummy cheap blender from the 1970’s that is still working today. Our cheap blender we got for our wedding lasted 3 months.
I sure hope you get it figured out!
