Traffic School

Traffic School

Posted on 14. Sep, 2009 by Trish in Trisha

Remember that ticket I got last month?  Well, after consulting a lawyer I found out that the court in that city does not care about wrong information on the ticket unless it is my personal information.  Since that was correct it just might make it worse if I tried to fight it in court.  The lawyer told me I should just go to traffic school and get it off my record.  So that’s what I did.

Saturday morning at 8:45 I found myself walking into the police station.  I was afraid I would be the only one there that traffic schoolearly, so I had a book tucked away into my purse.  I walked into the lobby and on the left side there was a dim room with the sign “TRAFFIC SCHOOL” propped on an easel right outside the door.  I could see one other girl in there chatting with the officer.  She was asking him how fast over the speed limit we can actually go without worrying about being pulled over.  His answer was 5 miles.  He said under 5 they really don’t care.  If it’s 7 or 8 you’ll probably get pulled over but most likely just given a warning.  If you’re 8,9,10 miles over the limit, you’ll most likely get a ticket.  Interesting.

I had no idea what to expect because I had never been to traffic school.  In fact, this was the first time I had ever even been pulled over.  More and more people began to show up and the room filled up pretty quickly.  There were people of all ages in there.  Some were very obviously teenagers, and some were middle aged.  The majority were about my age range in their 20s or 30s it seemed.  The officer that was conducting traffic school even had two guys he had gone to high school with in the class, so they had a mini reunion.

It was supposed to be a 3 hour class, but we got done about 30 minute early or so.  No one objected to that.  It was nice for me to learn some of the things because I didn’t go to drivers ed here in this state.  And when I took the drivers license test for here, most of the questions were about what year a law was passed, etc, and it was open book.  I felt like the book really didn’t tell me specific traffic rules.  But now I know the rules for this state.

The officer was really nice and made the class interesting.  There was also a girl there that I knew so we had a chance to talk during the break.  So all in all it wasn’t too bad, except for the fact that I had to pay a ton for my ticket and traffic school.  Let’s just hope I don’t get pulled over again anytime soon.

That sucks that you had to go but at least it wasn’t terrible. I’ve always heard too that as long as you weren’t going over 5 extra MPH then you wouldn’t get pulled over. When I was 8 mo preggers with my son I was going down a lonely highway when all of a sudden I saw lights behind me. I had never been pulled over before and was scared to pull over because it was late, dark and there was no one else on the highway. The cop said that I was going 9 miles over the speed limit and I said, ‘no I wasn’t…I was going about 5 over.’ He got all huffy and said, ‘well you were still speeding!’ Well ok…it was my fault. Then he saw my big belly and 2 year old in the backseat and let me go with a warning. I’ve never been pulled over since…knock on wood! lol ;) Glad it’s over for ya!
