Back to the Crib
Posted on 19. Oct, 2009 by Trish in Family Life
Well, my daughter did really well sleeping in her bed for a while. The past couple of weeks here she has decided, however, that she doesn’t want to sleep in her bed, she wants to sleep in her crib.
In fact, she has learned to climb INTO her crib. Most kids climb out of it, but not her. Guess she just has to do things differently. :D
I’m not quite sure why she refuses to sleep in her bed. Maybe since her crib is smaller she feels more secure? Who knows?
I just have to laugh, though, because we moved her out of it because she was done. She wanted out. Now that she’s out, she wants back in. Think the grass is greener on the other side?
I think what I might do is take the front side of her crib off and buy a bed rail. Maybe that will help a little.

kids are so funny. I didn’t realize they have the whole grass is greener concept already. =)
I sleep in one of three places in my house though… so I can’t say too much!

Apparently they do, LOL!
Well, I took the one side of her crib off tonight, so we’ll see how it goes. She already wanted me to put it back on. But so far so good.

That is pretty funny! I know someone whose daughter was in a crib til she was three. They both liked it that way and I plan on keeping Abby in her crib as long as she isn’t trying to climb out.

Yup, I really had no problem with her staying in the crib either, but she was trying to get out, which is why we moved her to a big bed.

My 2YO son did the same thing. I kept the playpen up in his room along with his toddler bed and I let him pick where he wanted to sleep. If he had the choice/control, he fought me less at bedtime. 90 percent of the time he chose his bed, but I dindn’t make a big deal out of it if he picked the playpen. If he crawled out of the playpen, he was low enough to the ground that he wasn’t going to hurt himself, either. After about a month of his picking the toddler bed every night, I put the playpen away.
The bed rail sounds like a good idea. At this age, it’s all about giving them reasonable choices and the perception of control.

That’s why I didn’t fight it when she wanted to get back in the crib. I figured it was just one way of showing that control.
