Bloggy Slump
Posted on 01. Oct, 2009 by Trish in Trisha
Have you ever felt like you were in a bloggy slump? I feel that way right now. When I first got into blogging I loved to update every day. I had tons of things to say. I used to devour all my friends and families blogs, and then get mad when they didn’t update regularly.
That’s when I started blog hopping and entering contests. It gave me something to do, and it was fun. I think I’ve mentioned it before that we are a one car family. Since my husband leaves so early in the morning for work, it’s not really an option for me to drive him to work to have the car. We do that when we need to, but I really don’t like having to wake my daughter up to drive 30 minutes, to then drive back another 30 minutes just so I can run a couple of errands during the day. So I’m at home pretty much all day, every day.
I needed an outlet, a way to connect with other adults. Our house faces our little neighborhood park and I would watch out the window and as soon as I saw others over there I would hurry and pack my daughter up and away we’d go. It didn’t really matter that she was only 4 months old and really could care less about the park. I needed the adult interaction. Then it started getting cold and people weren’t outside as much. That’s when I decided to start this blog and really dive deep into the blogging world.
I loved the community I found, especially in the MomDot forums. Everyone there was so helpful and I was able to
learn what technorati was, or why alexa rankings were important to some companies. I learned how to fine tune my blog design and really make my blog stand out from the hundreds out there. It was like a virtual girls get together. We could all chat, but didn’t have to worry if our kids started crying or needed our attention. We didn’t have to interrupt someone, or hang up on them. We’d just walk away and come right back to where we left on when we had time.
That community is what I really craved. I had a passion for doing product reviews and giveaways here on my blog. Now that passion has dwindled, and I really wanted to start doing more personal posts. Now I’m not sure what my blogging passion is, or if I even have one right now. My friend Cat over at 3 Kids and Us wrote an article about blogging passions that really made me think. I don’t think I’m really passionate about anything right now. Which is sad to me. I think what I really want is that sense of community here on my blog.
I want to know who my readers are. I want to read your blogs and get to know you. I want to feel like I can call you my friends. And I don’t have that right now. I don’t really feel like I have people who read my blog and comment on a consistent basis. But I want to change that. I want to feel the wonderful sense of friendship here. I want to get to know YOU!
So tell me about yourself. Leave me a comment and tell me something…anything! It could be a physical characteristic you have, or something about your family, or something odd that most people don’t know. I really don’t care. I just want to get to know you more personally. If you have a blog, leave the link. I want to stop by and visit.

I don’t have a blog, so I can’t leave you a link. From time to time I get this thought that I want to start a review blog and get all the cool stuff for free that sponsors are giving away and then I remember that nothing is free and that blogging is time consuming work, so I’ll just continue to read other people’s blogs and enter their giveaways
I hope you have a good weekend!
Anyway, I only leave comments when I think my opinion is relevant and original because that’s how I am in real life–I am not one for small talk, but I’ll give it a go here:
I am a stay at home mom to a chatty head-strong three year old, (Lord give me strength,) I’ve been married eight years, and I turn 30 in December. Fall is my favorite time of year and my family is going to a corn maze this Sunday. I have allergies, so hopefully I will survive the hay ride. Speaking of allergies, I’m allergic to cats and we own 7. Only one lives inside, and we have her shaved (she gets the lion cut!!!) so I don’t sneeze myself to death or kill myself trying to keep the cat hair off our hardwood floors. I was bringing in the groceries tonight and a skunk ran across my path and I acted like a moron–you would have thought he had a gun or something. I play Sims 2 and Sims 3 on the computer–I don’t know why; those games are such time wasters, and I LOVE to play Rockb and and Guitar Hero! I love to read too, which is mainly why I started reading blogs and entering giveaways for books. I would like for you to do some giveaways for chocolate because I’m a choco-holic and free chocolate has less calories than chocolate you’ve paid for

I’m new to the blogging world. Just started my blog a couple of weeks ago when I decided to become a stay at home mom. It is really fascinating to me how this “blogging world” works. I really had no idea what I was getting in to! A little something about me … I love being outside! Ready for fall … but not for winter! I’ll miss my daily walks with my son.

Hi Lauren! Welcome to the blogging world. It is a lot of fun, but yeah there’s a whole lot more to it than I first realized!
I am so not ready for winter either. I used to wish for snow when I was growing up in CA, but now I’m in Utah and get a ton of snow, I am not a fan. I decided I really don’t like the cold.

I’m Melissa. I make handcrafted jewelry, but that’s sadly taken a back seat to blogging. I’ve started to get back into it lately though. I get your email updates, so I stop by a few times a week, I just don’t always have something to say lol.

Hi Melissa! That is awesome that you make jewelry. I dabble in beads here and there, but it’s more just things for me.
And I totally get the whole not having anything to say thing. I notice myself going to blogs and reading them, but not leaving a comment. I need to get better about that.

Oh yeah, and I can relate to Nancy’s knowing people who read her blog, too. lol I’ve had a couple of letters from well-meaning and much-loved family members who had a lot to say about the topic I was posting. Usually negative. lol So I think a little too much before I blog sometimes.

I’m lucky that I haven’t had any letters yet. Besides my husband and my sil, maybe a few cousins, I don’t have family that reads my blog. Maybe that’s a good thing, LOL!

I’m Lindsey.
I have a 16-month-old little girl and love Starbucks.
I feel like I don’t have anyone who comments on a regular basis, either… I’m going through the same stuff you are! I think it’s because I get so into reviews and giveaways, and then it becomes WORK – lol. I love it, but I want to be able to keep up the product review AND the sense of community! I don’t post enough good personal content… that’s interesting. lol
I’m more likely to come back to a blog if I feel the blogger cares about her readers and the sense of community, so you’ll see me more!

Hi Lindsey! I’ve seen you around the blogisphere before.
I think it’s really hard to find that balance. Hopefully we’ll both figure it out.

I’m Kimberly. My friends and family call me Kimmy. I got into an argument with my psycho neighbor today, and it felt great to tell him off!

Hi Kim! I’m lucky I don’t have any psycho neighbors! Mine are all pretty nice.

Hi! I’m Nancy. I like cake too. The dessert and the band. Hmmm. Maybe Kate and I need to start a site together!
I’ve been in a blogging slump too. There’s so much going on in my head and in my life that I can’t write about because people who really know me are reading me and it’s better that they’re not privvy to the inner workings of my head right now. Ironically, it seems as though that it’s only these people that are reading me, which leaves me wondering “why bother?”

OK, all this talk about cake made me want some, so I just went and ate a piece.
I totally get what you mean about not being able to say things. I usually say anything here on my blog, but if I’m talking about a gift idea for my husband, I know I can’t blog about it because he reads. That is when I turn to a forum or I write an article on the momdot community page. You can create a “fake” account over there, and no one knows who it was that wrote the article. LOL! It’s great to get things off your chest.

I’m Kelly, I haven’t been blogging long and I already feel the slump. I am starting to think of new things to blog about though so maybe I’ll get back into it. I have been a follower of yours for awhile and love to read what you have to say. I am a mommy of 4 girls and I homeschool and for right now we are a one car family (until I can get my van fixed).

Hi Kelly! Welcome to the bloggy slump club! LOL I’m glad you enjoy my blog.
Wow, I commend you for homeschooling. I don’t know if I could do that, especially with 4 kids!

You and my toddler. It was my dh’s birthday a few days ago and we made cake, and now she asks for it nonstop! She even wants it for breakfast.
