A little while ago I wrote a post about how I was disappointed in Singer because my motor went bad on my Singer Confidence 7470 Sewing machine after only having it for one year. Well, after that post, I was contacted by Kate who works for Singer and she offered to have Singer fix the machine [...]

Well, I guess something serious has happened, and I have been going through hard times, but nothing that won’t be solved by July 25th.   Let [...]

Tragic Loss

I haven’t been online much lately as I am trying to do a mad dash to get ready for Christmas.  So this morning when I signed into a mom blogging community I was shocked to learned that a fellow member, Shellie from Blog 4 Mom, had lost her 2 year old son when he fell [...]

Halloween and Costumes

Everywhere I go I see Halloween costumes.  I had to run to the fabric store a few times recently and the cutting tables were a madhouse.  You had to grab a number when you first got there, and then go do your shopping and still wait in line for 15 minutes to wait for your turn.

I love Halloween.  I love being creative too.  That is why I always make my own costumes.  That way no one else will have a matching one.  :D

This year my daughter is going to be a 50’s girl.  I have the purple pettiskirt already, so now I just need to make the actual poodle skirt to go over top.  My husband is going to be a greaser with a leather jacket and slicked back hair.  And me, I’m going to reuse my Bowl Her costume with my pill box hat and Jackie Kennedy look.

Growing up we never bought costumes.  Ever.  Basically we had one big box full of things like scrubs, old dance costumes, former costumes my mom had make, like our care bear outfits, or the pumpkin along with the green tights.  We would pull it down the beginning of October and play dress up all month long with it.  Then as Halloween got closer we all chose something from there and used that for our outfits.  As I got older I started getting creative and using things I had in my wardrobe for my costume.  I was Pippi Longstockings for 3 years, complete with the pigtails sticking out.

For those of you on a budget, get creative.  Look around your house and see what you have that would work.  Felt is also really cheap to buy by the yard and works great for many costumes.  You don’t even have to sew, just glue it together.  So I encourage you to get creative and have some fun!

  • I am making Miss Diva in Training’s costume this year too! i love the idea of making something one of a kind for her to wear! ishe is going to be a halloween fairy! i spent less than $10 on the whole thing that would have cost me well over $50 at a boutique! I am so proud! and so is my thrifty hubby! We also had a huge costume box growing up we never bought costumes we just used things we already had too!!!!

  • I always intend to make them but never follow through….I need to get better about that
