Twilight Ladybug From Cloud B Review
Posted on 29. Oct, 2009 by Trish in Review
Not that long ago we moved my daughter out of the crib, and into a “big girl bed” as she calls it. Since then she has decided she wants back in the crib, but that’s a whole ‘nother story.
With this transition we were looking for something to encourage her to actually stay in bed, and might soothe her a little. We had never used a nightlight, and I was afraid that she would just get up and play with it. I had seen the Twilight Turtle from Cloud B, and was intrigued by the idea. Cloud B was nice enough to send us another animal from their Twilight line, the Twilight Ladybug to try out.
The Ladybug has a hard shell like the turtle, with stars cut into the shell that project stars and the moon onto the surrounding walls and ceiling when on. When you turn it on you have the choice of choosing from 3 different colors: red, blue or green. I noticed that the red doesn’t show up very well on the walls and ceiling, and the blue shows up the best.
It has an automatic timer so it will turn off after 45 minutes, so you don’t have to worry about having to manually turn it off. We have another nightlight out in the hallway and I ALWAYS forget to turn it off. That means I usually burn the bulbs out quickly because they are on all night and all day. Oops. This automatic timer is perfect for me.
It also comes with a star guide that allows you to help your child identify the constellations. I think this would be great for older kids to learn.
My daughter has absolutely fallen in love with this. She has to have her “stars” every night. We were at grammy’s one time and tried to put her down and she threw a fit because we didn’t have her stars. Now we know better to not try to put her to sleep without them. I tried to get a picture of her with her beloved stars but my camera didn’t do well in the dark.
I love that it has helped teach her colors. We go through and she can now tell us which color she wants that night, which usually ends up being blue, but she knows the other colors now too. I’ve noticed her pointing out other colors a lot more since we’ve had this too. I don’t think that was their intended purpose, but it was a side effect for our family. Guess it just goes to show you that almost anything can be turned into a learning experience- it just depends on how you approach it.
Like any projector it is best if you put this in the middle of the room to have the stars projected evenly throughout the whole room. We didn’t really have that option, so I placed it on top of her dresser on one side of the room. While the stars on the wall closest to the dresser were very sharp and defined, it still filled the room with stars. I was quite impressed with its reach. The stars farthest away were just a little more blurry, but it didn’t bother us at all.
I can say that I highly recommend this for anyone, in fact I already have suggested it to a few friends and showed it
to my mother in law who fell in love with it. If you don’t think the Twilight Ladybug will appeal to your kid, they also have the Twilight Sea Turtle
, and the Twilight Turtle
.
I think the only thing I really think could be improved is the brightness of the red. Even holding it right next to the walls in a completely darkened room it was very hard to see the stars in this color. The other colors seemed to work very well, however.
Cloud B has a whole line of other products to help children and babies sleep. Be sure to check out their Sleep Sheep
and other friends too.

Awe! We absolutely loved the Cloud B ladybug too! My son is two and fell in love with it right away. Great review Trisha! Oh, I agree about the red being faint.
