Are You a Morning Person, or a Night Person?

I am definitely a night person. I have such a hard time getting up in the mornings.
In high school I had an early morning church class that was before school called seminary. The regular early morning class started at 6am, but I was taking an early morning class in school too, so school started at 6:30 am for me. That made the regular early morning seminary not possible for me. Instead I went to the early, early morning class that started at 5am. I had to get up at 4:15 every morning. It wasn’t easy, but I did it.
I figured I’ve paid my dues, and I don’t ever want to have to get up that early again.
I’ve done it a few times here and there, but I try to avoid mornings as much as possible. I would love to be able to sleep in till 9am every morning. Unfortunately once you have kids your schedule kind of gets thrown out the door and you have to do things on their schedule. Lucky for me our daughter usually sleeps in till 8, so at least I can sleep in a little.
My husband is not a morning person either. In fact, his mom said she used to go in to wake him up when he was little and he would say he didn’t want to get up because his bed loved him too much. That’s how I feel, especially in the winter when it’s cold in the room, but I’m snuggled up in my nice warm bed. My bed just loves me too much to let me go.
So what are you, a morning person, or a night person?

I, too, had Seminary at 6 am in high school. Yet with all those years of getting up early, and college early classes, and the years I worked, I have never been able to transform myself into a “morning person!” My husband gets very frustrated with me, as he is one of those morning people who wakes up EARLY and cannot get back to sleep no matter how hard he tries. So he goes to bed early. My brain wakes up about 9 pm and will not stop running until usually after midnight. The creative program kicks in and if I lay in bed I will just start projects in my head until my body gets restless and I end up somewhere in the house where I won’t disturb anyone…usually on the computer or reading a book. (There are five people living in a small house right now.) Sometimes this dichotomy between us is a good thing, as he can drive our son to Seminary and I can pick him up from late-night activities such as plays he is in or dances he attends. I also make the midnight emergency-room runs by agreement, and when we take a road trip we can drive “straight through” to almost anywhere by taking turns driving when we are alert. I am looking for the “science behind the problem” today to see if this is hard-wired or if we can change some of it. Wish me luck!

Definitely NOT a morning person, I am up late (or is it early) usually until 2AM on the computer blogging or visiting other bloggers. I don’t wake up until around 8:00 and don’t usually get out of bed until noon. But I have an excuse, I have a back and neck disability, so I spend a lot of the time lying down. I usually only get up early if I have to go to the doctor or physical therapy and then I am grumpy all day. I also take at least one nap during the day. I am lucky that I have a WONDERFUL husband who walks the dog in the morning which they really love to do, and he brings me coffee and a nutrigrain bar in bed every morning.
