What Are Your Kids “Must Have” Holiday Gifts?

What Are Your Kids “Must Have” Holiday Gifts?

Posted on 12. Nov, 2009 by Trish in Family Life

This is the first year we are actually thinking about gifts to buy for our daughter for Christmas.  Last year we traveled out of state and knew my parents were spoil her anyways, so we didn’t really buy anything for her.  The year before she was too little to understand.

toddlerlaptopThis year, however, she will be 2 1/2 and is at the perfect age for understanding gifts and such.  I’ve been trying to think of some things she might like, such as a computer of her own.  She is always trying to take over my laptop.  I was thinking maybe the Fisher-Price® Fun 2 Learn™ Laughtop™ or the Vtech Tote and Go Laptop.  Does anyone have any experience with either of these?  I want something that will grow with her, but is still simple and easy for her to use now.  She already knows her letters and likes to “write” to daddy when he’s at work.  I usually tell her to find the h, then the i and so forth so she can write “hi daddy.”  Sometimes a few other random letters get thrown in there, but she has a blast looking for the letters and typing them.

Besides a laptop, and this Rose Petal Cottage my mom found on clearance last year, we don’t really have any ideas of what to get her.  Since she is very much into Minnie Mouse right now, we might try to find some dvds for her.  Other than that, I’m stumped.

I want to know what you are planning on getting your kids.  Maybe your ideas will spark my imagination.  What are your kids “Must have” gifts this year?

I”m thinking about a little laptop for my son, too. He’ll turn 3 a week before Christmas and needs help learning his letters. LIke your daughter, he’s always trying to steal my laptop and “send emaool.”

Like Andreah said, some Minnie dress up stuff would be really cute.

I guess we don’t really have a “must-have” item this year.

First – love your new design – it looks great!

I think we have the same VTech laptop Kim has, and my son plays with it quite a bit. She’s right about the dangling mouse being annoying. Ours hasn’t broken yet. We also have a Little Einsteins laptop (http://www.amazon.com/VTech-V-2dTech-Little-Einsteins-Laptop/dp/B0017UFRZA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1258082935&sr=1-1) and my son likes it a lot too. He’s been using them since he was around your daughter’s age and has gradually figured out more and more of the games.

I’m a little stumped on what to get him this year. He’s reached the “I want” stage but he wants everything he sees. There hasn’t been one specific thing that he’s consistently asked for. I’m thinking about a play kitchen, some friends have one and he loves to play with it when he’s there.

Maybe your daughter would like to dress up as Minnie Mouse? A costume would be a great gift if you don’t already one. =)

My oldest son is 7 and he wants a Nintendo DSi, a Nerf gun, a security camera (long post to follow) and DSi games.

My 5 year old son wants a drum, Wii games and Legos.

Gosh, I have boys so maybe I’m not the best for advice. But they love their Leapsters. Little hand held games and they have more educational type games. They got them for Christmas last year so they would have been 2 1/2. Still play them a year later.

    Maybe a play kitchen?

    Little People?

Good luck. It’s so much more fun now that they can tell me what they want. :)

We have an older version of the VTech one and the mouse is annoying because it is loose on a cord like a traditional mouse…more like a real one yes, but it also got beat up because of it and the mouse part no longer works.

We bought this for Abby: http://www.amazon.com/Vtech-Ride-Learn-Giraffe-Bike/dp/B00241NQT0/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1258068208&sr=1-5

and we’re getting her a plastic shopping cart.

I never thought about the mouse being an issue. That’s why I asked for advice! Thanks for letting me know!
