What Are Some Good Family Games?
Posted on 22. Dec, 2009 by Trish in Family Life
We love to play games in this house. Growing up it’s just something we always did. Usually Sunday nights. Now my husband and I enjoy it, and we often get together with some neighbors and have a game night.
We just realized we’ve forgotten to get them a Christmas gift, and were thinking that a game would be great. The problem is deciding which game to get. So I need your advice. Which family game do you love and would recommend?
Between the two families, we have the basic card games, such as:
- Uno
- Phase Ten
- Skip Bo
We also have the basic board games, like:
- Sorry
- Monopoly
- Life
Then we have the unique ones, such as:
- Apples to Apples
- Moods
- Settlers of Catan
- Visual Eyes
We are thinking of something more in this last category. So anyone have any that they really enjoy and would recommend?

Jenga is one of our favorites. It travels well and can be played by kids of all ages.
Sometimes we like to set it up so our 2 1/2 year old is the one who makes it fall. She loves it and gets so excited when it starts to sway.
She also loves putting it back to together again.
Dominoes are another good game. They have several variations for younger kids. My husband and I have been playing Dominoes for years.

I agree that cranium is a fantastic one!
I also love Loaded Questions – better for ages 6 and up though
Another fun one for like 6 years and up is Catch Phrase. Such a fun game for 4 or more people!
Good luck! I think you have some wonderful suggestions here

Cranium! It’s my favourite, although people don’t like to play with me because I’m so competitive with it!

Cranium is fun, but I know I have to be in the mood for it.

We have the Planet Earth DVD game and love it. Would You Rather is another my hubby loves. Oh, and Jenga-a classic, but still fun!

I think I’ve played Would You Rather before. I’ll have to go look at it to see if it’s the same game I’m thinking of.

We have Trivial Pursuit (in various versions), Trouble, Battleship, Yahtzee, Life, Dominoes, Chutes and Ladders, Candyland, and Cootie in addition to ones you mentioned.
I’ve been looking at Would You Rather, and Fact or Crap for us adults too.

How about Yahtzee, Cranium and Pictionary?

We did borrow one version of Yahtzee that was really fun. It was the normal version.

I can honestly say I don’t think I’ve ever played scrabble. Too much thinking!
