Apron Tutorials

Posted on 19. Mar, 2010 by Trish in Tutorial

I am hosting a bunko group here at my house next month and have been busy preparing all the prizes.  How we play is everyone pays $10 a month, and that money goes towards prizes.  At the end of the night, everyone walks away with some kind of prize, be it the $30 prize, or the $5 prizes.  It’s the host’s responsibility to buy the prizes.  Well, being me, I decided to make my prizes.  I did this last time and everyone loved it, so I thought I’d make them again.  Last time I made purses/bags, and this time I decided to make aprons.

I decided I wanted to make each apron different.  Different styles, different material, etc.  No two would be alike.  Oh, and I wanted these to be fun, flirty, sassy aprons.  No boring ones.  Lots of ruffles, frills, etc.  And yes, I am insane.  I started two months in advance and only have 2 1/2 left to finish.  I had some patterns, and could make up some, but I turned to the internet to see what tutorials were out there.  I found a couple of really cute tutorials that were super easy to make and thought I’d share them with you so you could make some aprons too!

The first one I fell in love with is this ruffle apron from One More Moore.

ruffle apronAdorable, right?

This one I made a trial one because I adjusted the size a little.  I made it longer on the sides because these aprons I wanted as a one size fits all.  Since, using her dimensions, this barely covered my front, I decided to make it wider.  I also surged the top of the fabric so it wouldn’t fray over time.  Then, after making a trial one, I decided I didn’t like the rough edge of the ruffles showing if one ruffle got lifted up.  So instead of placing the ruffle right on the fabric and sewing it, I flipped it so the ruffle pointed up towards the waistband, sewed it, and then the ruffle flipped down and covered the raw edge.  It just made it look so much more finished, in my opinion.  I made this as a half apron, and then I made another one adjusted into a full apron.

The next tutorial I found was this reversible scalloped apron.

This one actually has a printable pattern available for you to print off yourselves, so no measuring and trying to figure things out.  I am currently in the process of making this one, as I cut it out last night, and now I just need to sew it.  I had to adjust the last scallop just slightly because I didn’t have quite enough fabric.  I like that this is reversible so you basically get 2 aprons in one.

So there you go.  Two super cute apron tutorials online that are free to use.  Have fun creating, and I’ll be sure to share pictures of all of my aprons when I am done making them.

Thank you! I am looking for an apron tutorial for this exact reason! I want to give it as a gift for our Christmas Bunco exchange:)

I have a reversable apron that my MIL made so many years ago (she passed away in 1996) that has a pocket and a great big tie bow. I love it and wear it all the time. It is my favorite apron, more so than any other one that I have.
