Operation Organization

Operation Organization

Posted on 10. Mar, 2010 by Trish in Family Life

Our basement has turned into the spot where we put everything that we don’t want in the bedrooms, living room, or kitchen.  Over the past 3 1/2 years it has just gotten worse and worse.  My fabric and craft supply has grown, my husband’s comic book collection has grown, and so has all of our baby items.

It finally got to the point where I could not stand it anymore.  I said enough is enough, we need to make some changes.  Of course that is when pregnancy came into play and I could barely do more than get off the couch most days.  My mom was here visiting for a couple of days and she helped move our computer desk out of the dining room and into the basement, which included clearing space for it, as well as helped us organize some of our mess.  This was back in January.

It was soooo much better, but we still needed to get shelves and get stuff on them instead of having everything spread out all over the floor.  We finally got shelves in, and I have been organizing like crazy.  My fabrics are now all together, sorted by kind of fabrics, as well as color in some situations, and I can now find things easily.  I have ordered a sewing table that just came in so I can move my sewing machines off of the kitchen table and into the basement in it’s own little corner.  That means our kitchen table can now be used for…well…eating.

We are such clutter keepers, so it’s been good for us to go through everything and get rid of stuff.  We still had bills (paid, of course) tucked away in boxes from when we were first married 6 years ago.

Yeah, it was that bad.  And I’m even going to show you some before pictures, even though I am ashamed to show how bad it was.  After pictures will have to come later, once everything is finalized and put together down there.  But for now, my hidden mess:

And now, the worst area of all, my craft corner, that also included anything and everything that could be shoved over there.  Eek!  Don’t judge me too hard, ok?

How I ever found anything in that mess is a mystery.  Once the basement is done I’ll probably move on to our closets.  That will be another adventure, I’m sure.

So  now you know my deep dark secret, and how organization is just not my thing, even though I hate having everything a mess.  Hopefully once I get everything organized I can keep it that way and it will never get this bad again.  This is also why I haven’t had many new posts lately.  I’ve been busy with this, and with sewing.  I have 12 aprons to get done for my Bunko group next month, and 6.5 are now done.  I should be able to make it.  It just doesn’t leave me much spare time for other things, including blogging.

Now I don’t feel so bad about my closets. I can’t wait to see your after photos.
Your house is gonna be in tip top shape for the new baby.
Then you can come here and help me get our ready for us to sell so we can move to our new one. :-)
