From Slob to Suave with JC Penney

*Random.org has picked lucky number 13, Laura as the winner!*
Just last week I was contacted by a PR rep asking if I had any guys in my life that needed a makeover to help update their look. If so they wanted to send me a gift card to JC Penney to help turn them from slob to suave in honor of Father’s Day.
I immediately thought of my husband. When we met back in 2003 he tended to be a little behind the times fashion wise. But only at times. I didn’t quite understand it. Sometimes he would dress stylishly in cargo pants and a t-shirt, and then other times he would wear a pair of overalls with a belt and let the top part of the overalls hang down. Then he would pair that with a bright yellow t-shirt. I absolutely hated that outfit. It may have been ok in the 80s and maybe early 90s here because they tend to be behind the times anyways, but this was 2003.
After we got married I eventually steered him more towards cargo and carpenter pants and his t-shirts. Those were great while he was a college student. Now he works in an office and often has to travel for work to train clients and needs a more professional look. He has been wearing collared shirts, but that is because the dress code requires it. While a collared shirt does add some professionalism it still looks quite casual when he wears it unbuttoned with light colored carpenter jeans.
So off we headed to JC Penny last night to shop for a more updated look. He was recently introduced to dark colored straight jeans which he wasn’t sure he’d like at first, but now he absolutely loves and they are his favorite pants to wear. We ended up finding a couple more pairs for him, as well as some khaki colored slacks and a pair of gray dress slacks by J Ferrar. He wasn’t too sure of the gray slacks when I originally showed him, but he has learned to trust my judgment when it comes to clothes, so he was willing to try. They are so silky smooth I told him he had to feel them and once he did he was sold. They looked great and are definitely a favorite.
Then we moved on to shirts. He already had quite a few button down shirts and he prefers the long sleeve ones over short sleeve ones, which is what is mainly in stores right now, so we concentrated more on the pants. We did manage to find a couple more long sleeve button down shirts and then I talked him into trying polo shirts. I think polo shirts are kind of that middle line between casual and dressy. He really wasn’t too sure but he even said, “I trust you” so he tried a few on. Turns out he even liked a couple. Too bad they were out of his size on his favorite one. We still ended up getting his second favorite. He even wore it to work today.
The best part about all the clothes we got is they were all on sale! Let me just say I love shopping when I can buy a $50 shirt for $18. We saved over $180 and ended up saving more than we spent! Gotta love sales.
