Babyville Boutique

Many of you know that I cloth diaper.  Not only do I cloth diaper, I also make my own cloth diapers.  I’m sure many of you think I must be insane, but it is so addicting!  I love making new fluff for my little guy!

Well, I have to buy most of my supplies online, and it can kind of be a pain trying to get everything.  But that won’t be the case for long!  Let me just say that things are about to get so much easier for those who want to make their own cloth diapers.

Babyville Boutique is a new line of cloth diapering supplies that is coming to stores like Joanns, Hancocks, and Hobby Lobby next month!  They will have PUL, snaps, snap pliers, EZ Adjust Tape, appliques, tags, foe, buttons, etc.  I’ve been lucky enough to get to try out a lot of things before they are even in stores and I love it!  The PUL prints are so cute, and the PUL is super easy to sew with.  It’s not sticky like some other pul can be.

Want to see some of the cute stuff I’ve made for my son so far?

And just because he’s so cute:

I just found your post via a google search. Question for you: I’ve heard that the Babyville Boutique PUL delaminates fairly quickly. Have you found that to be true?

      Hey Amanda,
There have been a few cases of it delaminating, but I have used it for months with no problems at all. It seems to be only a little bit from the very first round. The company has done everything they can to make sure it doesn’t happen again. And if for some reason you do have a problem with it, if you contact them they will do everything they can to make it right for you. They stand behind their product 100%.

I just recently had our fourth baby is a little less than 6 years, We have always used disposables because I could never rationalize using cloth if the covers were going to be so expensive and there was going to be some much more work involved. Well that was 6 years ago and now I know I could have save a fortune and sadly I have largely attributed to a landfill. Anyhow i came across your website looking for tutu instructions and would be thrilled to make your new babyville diapers and give them a try. Will you be posting a how to for those. I myself will need some serious step by baby step directions as I an a novice sewer but I think they are so cute and I am feeling so inspired thanks to you, Christy

All the instructions needed are in the book “Cloth Diapers Made Easy” that is sold in Joanns and Hancocks and soon Hobby Lobby. There are also tons of useful tutorials online. Soon the Babyville website will be up and running along with a forum. There will be tons of great ideas on there. You can do it!

Hi! I know this was posted a while ago, but I am very interested in this whole cloth diapering thing and have a few questions:). First of all, how much does it cost to make 1 babyville diaper approximately?. If its cheaper than buying them, I’m all over it, but if not, I’d rather…make a quilt or something:). Also, do they fit and work well? They are soooo cute, and yours look just as good if not better than bought diapers, but I’m afraid to jump in!! :)
        Thanks!

Hi Michelle! You know, I haven’t figured out the actual cost of one, but it is definitely cheaper than buying! Most cloth diapers are around $20 or so for one if you buy them. You can get a yard of print pul using a 40% off coupon for about $9 and you can get at least 6 diapers out of that. It costs less for the solid colors. So $1.50 per diaper for the outer material. For the inner I like to use crushed panne which is often on sale for less than $3 a yard. You can get at least 6 diapers out of that too, so it would be $0.50 for the inner. The elastic I use is the Dritz brand and a package is around $1.50 and I can get several diapers out of that, I’ve never actually counted. So so far it’s less than $3 for the diaper. You add the snaps or the EZ Adjust tape for the closures and that shouldn’t be more than another couple of dollars at most. The soaker fabric is going to be the most expensive, but I like to use the nice thick blue microfiber towels from Sam’s Club and those come out to be less than $1 a piece. I would say the total cost is somewhere between $5-$10 dollars to make one. But it is so fun to make your own! Then you can make adjustments for your kid so it fits perfectly. Jump right in and I bet you will love it!
