Updates on Babyville Boutique

Updates on Babyville Boutique

Posted on 19. Oct, 2011 by Trish in Crafts

I posted a little while back about the Babyville Boutique line coming soon to stores.  Well, it’s been in Joann Fabrics for about a month now, and I’m hearing reports that some Hancock’s Fabrics have it and some Hobby Lobby’s are getting it in now too.  It is also available on Joann.com, fabric.com and now Babyville Boutique is also available on amazon.com!

They have adorable pul fabric that is the waterproof layer used in diapers, as well as snaps, EZ Adjust tape, appliques, tags, fold over elastic, and buttons.  They also have two books out, one an instructional guide for sewing diapers that includes a great diaper pattern, and one is an accessories book of different things you can make for your kid.  Some of you may have been hearing reports that the products are shoddy quality, but Prym stands behind their products 100%.  They have had some select incidents of pul delaminating.  They are testing this and doing everything they can to figure out why this happened, because it is NOT acceptable to them to have these issues.  I myself have had no issues at all.  I have used the monsters, dinos, monkeys, flowers, frogs, owls, green, brown, blue, red, and orange with no problems.  Some of this I was sent to try out by the company, and some I have bought myself in stores.  It has all been from the same production line however, so it’s not like I was sent something different than what is available in stores.

There have also been some problems with the snaps breaking if you used their pliers.  They have found out it is usually an issue with the lower die and have replacement dies that they are sending out to anyone who has this issue.  Every report I have heard is that once they get this replacement die they have had no problems.  Once again, Prym is handling any issues with this line with amazing customer service.  From what I understand they have also been sending out replacement snaps as well as the die.  And anyone who has had any issues with any of their products they are replacing/refunding their purchases.  All you have to do is contact Prym and they are going above and beyond to take care of things.

These things do happen to a new line.  There really are some bumps in the road to be taken care of, but I still stand behind this product, even with the issues.  When a company is willing to do whatever they can to take care of things, that says a lot.  I myself have had delamination issues with some pul before from reputable companies, such as fabric.com.  It does happen quite a bit and there is really no way to know of these problems until they are used and problems are reported.  For me, the important issue is how these companies deal with their problems.  And I know that they are doing everything they can to figure out what has gone wrong and to fix them.

I am a member of the design team and am working on many great tutorials that will be posted on their website and blog when it is up and running.  (Soon, hopefully!)  I’m excited to be a part of this community of helping to inspire creativity in others.  And I love helping people figure out how to sew cloth diapers.  I have talked to the lady behind this adventure and she really wanted to help make these resources readily available to the public.  You know how you can get a pretty good idea of a person’s character when talking with them?  Well, I have talked with her and I do believe she is a wonderful lady and I feel a tremendous amount of peace being involved with her and this project.

I also have the say that the pattern is wonderful.  The small fit my son (well, it still does, but just barely) till he was over 20 lbs.  The book also gives you great ideas for how you can adjust the pattern if for some reason it doesn’t fit for you.  I actually used this and made a pattern that is slightly bigger than the small, yet smaller than the medium.  And it is by far the best fitting diaper I have for my son.  I have used it to make diapers for a neighbor who has having fit issues with many of her diapers and it worked perfectly for him too.  And now I’ve made some awesome newborns for my cousin, and for a friend of my sisters.  Newborn diapers are just so small and tiny and you just want to squish them!

Thanks for the info. I am having trouble with the snaps cracking when I use the Babyville pliers so I will contact customer service to see if I can get the replacement die. I hope it works, because the snaps are so adorable.

Thanks for the info. I am debating on whether or not to put my second child in cloth diapers, so this helps a lot.
